A Juneau man was indicted on three counts of sexual assault in the first degree and one count of assault in the second degree on Jan. 22.
Robert Quinto, 40, faces a maximum possible sentence of 99 years. Sexual assault in the first degree are unclassified felony offenses, which carry the longest prison sentences, and the severity exceeding Class A, B or C felonies.
The charges in question stem from an alleged assault on Jan. 1. According to the charging documents, Quinto raped and strangled a woman, leaving her with soft tissue swelling and injury to the larynx.
Quinto had known the woman for approximately six months, according to the attorney general information release. The majority of rape cases, 60%, are perpetrated by someone known to the victim, according to the Rape, Assault & Incest National Network.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
