A person rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard was in critical condition on Sunday evening after surviving an airplane crash near Juneau, according to a news release.

The crash occurred about 35 miles northwest of Juneau near Excursion Inlet. A Coast Guard aircrew responded to the location from Air Station Sitka around 5:38 p.m., flying to the plane’s last known position via its emergency locator transmitter.

The plane was located at 7:05 p.m. and the survivor, reportedly the only person aboard the aircraft, was discovered to be in critical condition. They were later transported to emergency services upon arrival at Juneau International Airport.
