Investigation continues into structure fire

Capital City Fire/Rescue released an update to Monday’s Mendenhall Valley structure fire on Meander Way.

[Fire causes extensive damage to Mendenhall Valley area residence]

Though the home was occupied at the time of the fire, there were no human injuries and a dog also escaped unharmed, however, a cat died due to the fire, according to CCFR.

At approximately 8:11 p.m. on Monday evening, CCFR was dispatched to a home in the 3400 block of Meander Way. According to CCFR Fire Marshal Dan Jager, upon fire personnel’s arrival, the two-story residence was under heavy fire on the exterior wall as well as fire and heavy smoke observed from inside of the structure.

An investigation into the fire’s origin began immediately during fire suppression activity, and it was determined that the fire had started on the exterior of the structure. While the home was reported as being insured, the damage is estimated at approximately $175,000.
