Slash your Friday evening plans — it’s time for Guns and Hoses.

The Alaska Peace Officers Association is set to host its annual Guns and Hoses hockey game and fundraiser at the Douglas Treadwell Arena at 6:30 p.m. Friday for a rematch between members of Alaska law enforcement agencies “Guns” and firefighters and emergency responders “Hoses.”

“This has been an epic battle for many years,” said Sgt. Shawn Phelps with the Juneau Police Department. “I’m looking forward to it, and I think it’s going to be great fun.”

For the past two years, the Hoses have taken home the win, but according to Phelps, this year they may have a run for their money as the Guns team will have some new faces this year with skills to look out for.

Phelps said the game is held every year both to enjoy some time spent on the ice with APOA members and to also raise money from the entry fees to fund scholarships, training and other public service events held by the APOA.

“We rely so heavily on each other for our daily duties, and it’s a great opportunity to get together and enjoy the game together,” he said.
