Coast Guard medevacs injured fisherman near Cordova

A Cordova-deployed Coast Guard aircrew helped medevac an injured crewmember from aboard a fishing vessel on Thursday.

The MH-65 sortied after Coast Guard Sector Anchorage received a relay from the vessel Nordic Lady that that a 60-year-old man aboard the vessel Silver Storm had suffered head trauma.

Crew members aboard the Silver Storm had anchored and provided first aid, but were unable to control the bleeding, according to a news release.

The helicopter crew hoisted the victim from the vessel, anchored near Esther Island, and transported them to Providence Hospital in Anchorage for higher medical care, according to the news release. The patient was in good condition when he was transferred to civilian medical personnel, according to the news release.
