Swim club shares championship results

After six competitions and a championship race held at Dimond Park Aquatic Center, Glacier Swim Club coaches recently shared team records and championship results.

GSC has been able to hold six competitions —four of them intersquad —in a swim season shaped by pandemic, coach Scott Griffith said in an email. All competitions have been in compliance with the city’s mitigation measures and include a virtual competition with Sitka, Griffith said. The club has not traveled outside of Juneau since February of 2020.

The team was able to resume meeting in person in June 2020. Initially, this was on dry land and in an open-air setting for about three months, Griffith said. Once able to be back in the pool, local competitions began.

The competitions culminated in a championship race held April 16-18 at Dimond Park Aquatic Center.

Team records and results are as follows:

No. 1 Plucky Platypi (3-0) 851 points

No. 2 Narwhals with Ill Intentions (0-3) 821 points

No. 3 Geeky Geckos (2-1) 735 points

No. 4 Chlorine Machine (1-2) 596

High point winners

— 8 and younger age group: Boys: Oliver Albrecht (41), Rowan Taintor (39) and Francisco Bolima (8). Girls: Olivia Jarvill (56), Evelyn Hochstoeger (13), Molly Woodruff (7)

— 9/10 age group: Boys: Loki Koeneman (56), Andrew Erickson (48) and AZ Cristobal (47). Girls: Brook Taintor (58), Sarah Anderson and Cora Soboleff (tie 41).

— 11-13 age group: Boys: Andrew Sanders (63), Josh Edwards (49) and Clive Mateo (46). Girls: Amy Liddle (58), Valerie Peimann and Kate Schwarting (tie 50).

— 14 and older age group: Boys: PJ Foy (63), Caleb Peimann (61), Chaz VanSlyke and Tytan Frawley (tie 44). Girls: Samantha Schwarting (61), Emma Fellman (51), Nancy Liddle (50)

Glacier Swim Club offers tryouts for new swimmers every month. The next tryouts are at 4 p.m., April 26 at Dimond Park Aquatic Center and April 27 at Augustus Brown Swimming Pool.
