Jazz and Classics returns for Fall Music Festival

Juneau Jazz and Classics has a new schedule and a new format, organizers of the annual festival announced.

This year’s festival will take place Oct. 1-3 in a virtual format, Juneau Jazz and Classics said in a news release. In addition to those changes, this will be the first festival to take place under the direction of Zuill Bailey, who was hired as artistic director last year. Previously, Bailey, who is a renowned cellist, performed in Juneau many times over the years.

The fall festival begins with a performance by Bailey on Thursday, Oct. 1. On Friday, Oct. 2 pianist Richard Downing will play the music of Joplin and Gershwin, and on Saturday, vocalist Shelly Watson will livestream from New York City.

Registration for the festival is free and can be done at www.jazzandclassics.org. Links to performances will be emailed the day before performances.
