Firefighters extinguish fire in box truck

Capital City Fire/Rescue personnel extinguished a fire in the back of a moving truck on Thursday afternoon.

No one was hurt as a result of the fire, said CCFR Fire Marshal Dan Jager, who was at the scene of the fire.

Employees were attempting to remove a liftgate with a cutting torch, Jager said. Sparks from the effort caught paper and cardboard in the truck. Efforts by the employees to put out the fire with extinguishers were unsuccessful.

The truck was located at a business on the 3200 block of Hospital Drive. The fire occurred near ongoing construction in the area, but it was unrelated.

The call came to CCFR at 2:40 p.m., Jager said, and it was mostly extinguished by 3 p.m., Jager said.

The business is currently working on a damage estimate.
