National Night Out postponed due to coronavirus concerns

The Juneau Police Department is postponing its National Night Out due to COVID-19 concerns, JPD announced.

“The tentative date for NNO is Oct. 6, 2020,” said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release. “JPD will continue to evaluate the conditions in Juneau to see if holding a NNO event is advisable.”

The National Night Out is a national event to improve law enforcement and first responder relations with the community that began in 1984. In Juneau, members of uniformed services will travel to a variety of neighborhoods where residents are generally holding cookouts or get-togethers to meet with people in a non-emergency context, Campbell said.

It is held annually on the first Tuesday in August in most of the country.

“As October comes closer, JPD will provide updates on the status of the NNO event this year,” Campbell said. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding during these times.”
