The Juneau Lions Club 74th Gold Medal Basketball Tournament is officially canceled.

Organizers shared the news with the Empire Friday evening.

The decision comes after the Thursday announcement of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the state and the Friday evening announcement that public schools will be closed to students and after-school activities through March 30.

The tournament had been scheduled for March 22-28 in the Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé gym.
