Coast Guard braves foul weather for early Turkey Trot

Coast Guardsmen and civilian employees soldiered through ugly weather Friday to run a 5K Turkey Trot for the chance of winning two turkeys.
“We try to do an event every month for District 17 morale,” said Lt. Drew Stafford, a fisheries enforcement officer who put the event together.
Runners jogged through rain and wind from the Hurff A. Saunders Federal Building, down the cruise ship piers and turning around halfway at Mount Roberts Road.
Gusting winds, low temperatures and steady rain made for unpleasant running conditions for the more than 16 warmly dressed volunteers who participated.
Lt. Cmdr. Scott McCann led the race with a time of 21 minutes and 19 seconds.
After the run, Chief Petty Office Matthew Schofield and Jenny Smith, a civilian engineer with the Civil Engineering Unit, won turkeys in a raffle.
