The former Public Safety Building has been fenced off for more than a month, and starting soon, it will finally come down.

Contractors from Coogan Construction are scheduled to finish preparation for the demolition on Wednesday, June 5, according to a news release from the City and Borough of Juneau. The demolition of the building will start as soon as possible after that, and contractors estimate the process will take about two weeks.

Work is scheduled to happen between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Once the work is done, Coogan will install a temporary asphalt parking lot.

Demolition was delayed for a short time due to asbestos being found between metal panels as workers tore down parts of the interior of the building. The estimated cost for the project is $408,000.
