The stars helped early explorers find their way.

A free presentation titled “Celestial Navigation,” 7-8 p.m., Tuesday at Marie Drake Planetarium, 1415 Glacier Ave. will explain how.

The event will include basic introduction to celestial navigation techniques used by mariners, and the talk will be given by Neil Nickerson, assistant professor of marine transportation for University of Alaska Southeast.

It will be followed by ‘The Sky Tonight’ on the Spitz projector.
