Annual 9/11 remembrance taking place Tuesday morning

This Tuesday, the Glacier Valley Rotary Club is continuing its promise to never forget the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The organization’s annual September 11 Ceremony is timed to match up with the time that the first of the two World Trade Center towers fell on Sept. 11, former Glacier Valley Rotary Club President Beth Weldon said. The ceremony begins at 9:50 a.m. and the flag will be lowered to half-mast at 9:59 a.m., she said. It takes place at Riverside Rotary Park on Riverside Drive in the Mendenhall Valley.

The club is asking people to arrive at 9:40 a.m. or before, due to a small amount of parking at the park. Everyone is welcome at the event.

There will be remarks from Glacier Valley Rotary President Sharon Burns, Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey, Juneau Police Department Lt. Scott Erickson, Capital City Fire/Rescue Firefighter Krista Sheldon and Mayor Ken Koelsch. Alyssa Fischer will sing the Star-Spangled Banner and Scott Marnon and the City of Juneau Pipe Band will perform Amazing Grace.
