Team named for gun-control bill takes top honors at legislative shoot

Team HB 75, with Rep. Geran Tarr among its members, earned honors as the top-scoring team from the Alaska House of Representatives in last weekend’s 21st annual Legislative Shoot.
Results were released Tuesday by the Alaska Correctional Officers Association, which co-hosted the event Saturday at the Juneau Gun Club.
House Bill 75, introduced by Tarr (D-Anchorage) last year, is the sole gun control measure to advance in the Alaska Legislature since a shooting at a high school in Florida killed 17 people. HB 75 remains under consideration in the House Judiciary Committee.
Team HB 75 scored 447 points in the four-event contest, but top honors overall went to Team Majority Arms, which scored 543 points.
Majority Arms includes Sen. Peter Micciche, R-Soldotna; deputy department of Revenue commissioner Jerry Burnett and legislative staffer Matt Gruening.
In addition to having the top overall score for a legislative team, Majority Arms had the top score for an Alaska Senate team. Burnett had the top score of any individual shooter.
The legislative team in second place was Team Deadpool, which included staffers Patrick Fitzgerald, Lizzie Kubitz and Ryan Johnson.
