Falcons boys, Wolves girls win Juneau Invite

The Thunder Mountain High School swim team took first in seven of the 11 swimming events at the Juneau Invitational Saturday. The Falcons totaled 105 points on Saturday and 194 points on Friday.

Spencer Holt prevailed over teammates Bergen Davis and Casey Hamilton to win the 200-yard freestyle Saturday. After swimming four down-and-backs in the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool, Hamilton’s 1 minute, 46.93 seconds-swim just beat out Davis (1:47.14) and Hamilton (1:51.14).

It was the only event of the day in which one team swept the podium.

Both Davis and Hamilton would take first in different events, however. Hamilton won the 100-yard backstroke by over five seconds and Davis the 100-yard breaststroke by nine seconds.

The Juneau-Douglas High School boys swim and dive team finished in third on Saturday.

Though the Crimson Bears scored a bit higher on Friday, they again finished third.

“I thought everybody swam outstanding this weekend,” JDHS coach Seth Cayce said. “They got a lot to fix but even then some of them swam lifetime bests.”

The Sitka Wolves girls teams won both meets on Friday and Saturday with 164 and 120 points respectively.

JDHS’ Taelyn Norvell finished first in the 200-yard freestyle on Friday and first in the 100-yard back on Saturday. TMHS sophomore Hannah Taube finished first in the 500-yard freestyle Saturday.

Each swimmer could race in no more than four events over the two days.
