The Shrine of St. Therese was designated a National Shrine by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Sept. 13. The official decree came out on Oct. 1, the Feastday of St. Therese of Lisieux.

The U.S. bishops must review this designation every 10 years. There are about 70 National Shrines.
