JPD, first responders take part in National Night Out

The Juneau Police Department will participate in next month’s nationwide community-building campaign National Night Out to promote police-community partnerships, according to a JPD press release.

Aug. 2 marks the 33rd year for National Night Out’s campaign across the country, and in Juneau, police will coordinate with Capital City Fire/Rescue personnel and other first responders to attend block parties throughout the community.

JPD is asking groups to organize neighborhood walks, parties and cookouts from 7 to 9 p.m. that officers and other responders can attend.

National Night Out is a community-oriented celebration that aims to increase crime and drug awareness and prevention, according to the department’s press release. It is also an opportunity to interact with local first responders.

Anyone interested in hosting an event in their neighborhood can register as a Block Captain by contacting JPD Community Services Officer Jennifer Adams at 586-0600, filling out a form at JPD’s station at 6255 Alaway Avenue or by visiting www.juneaupolice.com.
