Car accident kills 2 in Petersburg; July 4th parade cancelled

PETERSBURG — Two people are dead and two others are injured after a car they were in turned over into a ditch in Petersburg.

KFSK reported the community cancelled its 4th of July parade and carnival in response to the accident.

The vehicle turned over into a ditch near a parking lot at about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Officials haven’t released other details.

Police secured the area and nearby vehicles with yellow ribbon. A candlelight vigil was planned for 10 p.m. Monday. Paper lanterns were released prior to the regularly scheduled fireworks display at 11 p.m.
