Gov. Bill Walker used the fourth annual Alaska Federation of Natives-National Congress of American Indians Tribal Conference to announce the creation of a new advisory council.

On Wednesday, Walker said the Governor’s Tribal Advisory Council will improve the relationship between the state and its 229 federally recognized tribes.

The council includes 11 representatives from different interests. Delegates to the council will be nominated by tribes and appointed by the governor.
