Player of the Week: Esteban “Gaby” Soto

Esteban “Gaby” Soto is the Juneau Empire’s player of the week.

Soto, a freshman at Juneau-Douglas High School, scored the winning touchdown with just seconds remaining in fourth quarter of the Juneau United junior varsity’s 25-22 win over Lathrop on Saturday. It was the first win ever for the squad, which has four more games scheduled for this season, starting this weekend at Wasilla. The JV team lost to East Anchorage 30-24 in Week 3.

“Our young guys coming up — it’s going to be exciting,” Juneau coach Randy Quinto said on Saturday, adding, “(Our seniors) are leading the way for those younger guys and they’re doing well. They’re showing them the way things should be done.”
