The Central Council Tlingit-Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the new Housing First facility intended to combat homelessness in Juneau.
The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. on Allen Court in Lemon Creek, and the road will be closed while the groundbreaking take place.
The Housing First proposal involves granting living space to the homeless, even if they have not rejected alcohol addiction or drug addiction. The intent is to resolve their homelessness, freeing their time and resources to address the underlying issues that caused it.
