Police & Fire for Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015

Conditions violation

• At 4:16 a.m. Monday, the Juneau Police Department responded to a reported conditions violation. Domestic violence related. Investigation continues.

Death

• At 12:25 a.m. Monday, JPD responded to an unattended death in the 5800 block of Glacier Highway. Investigation continues. Alcohol was not involved.

Domestic dispute

• At 2:48 p.m. Sunday, a 28-year-old man reported his vehicle was damaged by a 23-year-old woman in a domestic violence related incident. Alcohol was involved.

Failure to validate harvest ticket

• On Monday, Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Murphy Degen, 29, and Timothy Johnson, 29, both of Juneau, at the south Douglas boat launch. Investigation revealed both men had harvested a deer but had failed to immediately validate their harvest tickets as required. They were both issued a $160 citation.

False information

• On Oct. 31, Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am for an equipment violation on Trout Street. Investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Shanye Howard, 25 of Juneau, was driving the vehicle while his license was suspended. Further investigation revealed that Howard provided Troopers with a false name to avoid apprehension. Howard was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended license and providing false information. He was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center where he was booked and later released on his own recognizance.

Fire and medical

• At 12:25 a.m. Monday, Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to a report of an unresponsive person on Lemon Creek Bridge. JPD was performing CPR, and upon arrival, CCFR initiated advanced life support. The person, a male, was confirmed deceased at the scene. At 5:35 a.m., CCFR responded to Black Wolf Way for a report of gas in a building. Upon arrival, CCFR met with the occupant, and an investigation showed a fuel tank of an outboard had fuel leaking from it. CCFR moved the tank outside, used absorbent pads to clean up the spill and advised the occupant to ventilate the building. Throughout the day, CCFR also responded to 10 EMS calls, two transport calls to take patients and flight teams to and from the hospital and airport, a fire alarm system malfunction on Channel Drive, and an unauthorized burn on Emily Way.

Fraud

• At 11:48 a.m. Monday, JPD received a report of fraud. Investigation continues.

Motor vehicle crash

• At 12:33 p.m. Sunday, JPD responded to a damage-only single vehicle crash at the intersection of West 10th Street and C Street. Investigation continues.

• At 4:24 p.m. Sunday, JPD responded to a vehicle in a ditch near Mile 25 of Glacier Highway. The driver and two passengers were taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation, and a third passenger was taken to BRH in a private vehicle. The 17-year-old driver was cited for careless driving. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

Theft

• At 9:50 a.m. Monday, JPD responded to a report of shoplifting in the 600 block of Willoughby Avenue. Investigation continues.

• At 11:59 a.m. Monday, an unknown person attempted to steal a $25.99 bottle of Yukon Jack Peppermint Schnapps and a $24.99 bottle of moonshine from a business in the 600 block of Willoughby Avenue by concealing them in his backpack. He was confronted by staff and the bottles were returned to the business.
