Pets rescued, no one injured in trailer park fire

A residential trailer was heavily damaged in a fire Thursday night, but the residents were not home and their pets were rescued, Capital City Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Ed Quinto said in a press release.

Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Switzer trailer park and arrived to find a large amount of smoke coming from the eves of the trailer, but no flames visible from the outside, Quinto said. Fire crews entered the trailer and quickly extinguished the fire.

There was heavy fire damage to the room of origin and extensive smoke damage to the rest of the inside of the trailer.

The occupants of the trailer were not in the home at the time and later showed up on scene, the release stated. The homeowner told firefighters that his dog and cat was inside the trailer; the crews were able to find the dog and cat in the back bedroom of the trailer and they were reunited with their owner.

There were no injuries reported, and the Red Cross showed up on scene to assist the trailer residents. The Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire and determining the extent and cost of the damage.
