Man arrested following hit-and-run

A man was arrested Friday morning after a Thursday night hit-and-run in a downtown grocery store parking lot, police announced.

Randal Benc, 36, was arrested on charges of first-degree assault and action of operator after an accident, according to Juneau Police Department. The arrest came after a traffic stop on Crest Street. Benc was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center, according to police.

At 11:26 p.m. on Thursday police received a report that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the Foodland IGA parking lot, and that a Dodge pickup truck left the scene after striking the pedestrian, according to police.

The pedestrian, a 26-year-old man who police did not identify, was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital before being medevaced to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A suspect vehicle was located Friday morning, a traffic stop was conducted and an arrest was made at that time, according to police.
