Juneau woman arrested on suspicion of robberies during past week at gas station, cafe

Suspect twice robbed a gas station at knifepoint, coffee shop/dispensary with mask.

A woman suspected in three recent retail store robberies since Friday, two of them at knifepoint, was arrested Monday, according to the Juneau Police Department.

Two of the robberies occurred Friday and Sunday at the Safeway Fuel Center on Vintage Boulevard, the other on Sunday at the Alaska Coffee Pot cafe and dispensary, according to a JPD information release.

Leona Marie Worman, 35, of Juneau, was arrested on Monday afternoon following a police investigation and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center where she was held without bail.

The first robbery occurred at about 8:56 p.m. Friday, according to the release.

“A female walked into the Safeway Fuel Center on Vintage Boulevard with a knife and demanded the fuel center clerk give her money from the cash register,” the release states. “The female suspect left the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Officers responded within minutes but did not locate the female suspect. The clerk was not injured during the incident.”

A similar robbery occurred at about 4 p.m. on Sunday when a woman wearing a mask confronted the clerk at knifepoint, again escaping with an undetermined amount of money.

At about 9:20 p.m. on Sunday the third robbery occurred when “a female matching the description of the suspect from the Safeway robberies entered the Alaska Coffee Pot shop on Dunn St wearing a mask and confronted an employee inside,” according to JPD.

“The female claimed she was armed and demanded money from the cash register and left with an undisclosed amount of money,” the release states. “The female suspect ran away on foot and was not located by responding officers who arrived in the area within minutes.”

Worman was arrested by JPD on three counts of first-degree robbery (a class A felony), one count of second-degree theft (a class C felony), one count of third-degree theft (a class A misdemeanor), and one count of fourth-degree theft (a class B misdemeanor).

She was subsequently charged with five counts, including three of first-degree armed robbery with a deadly weapon (a class A felony), second-degree theft involving an amount between $750 and $24,999 (a class C felony) and one count of third-degree theft involving an amount between $250 and $749 (a class A misdemeanor), according to the Alaska State Court System online database. A felony first appearance was scheduled Wednesday at the Juneau Courthouse.
