Juneau’s recycling center is shut down due to mechanical issues with its equipment. The center has been closed periodically since the winter storms in late December.
“After further investigation into the issue with the recycling baler, critical parts are now being shipped to Juneau to complete the necessary repairs,” a Tuesday City and Borough of Juneau social media post stated. “This means the Recycling Center will be closed indefinitely, until parts arrive and repairs can be completed.”
The parts for the repair are expected to arrive next week, a Thursday update from the Recycling Center said.
The center is operated by Waste Management, a private company contracted by the CBJ.
The center closed late December and early January amid snow storms and hazardous road conditions. It has been closed off-and-on through mid to late January due to equipment damage caused by heavy precipitation.
