Juneau man found dead

An employee of Juneau’s SuperBear grocery store was unexpectedly found dead Sunday.

According to the Juneau Police Department, 39-year-old Robert Loren Lakey III was found dead by a 39-year-old woman on Coogan Drive about 4:35 p.m. Jan. 10.

Gerold Wade, Lakey’s supervisor at SuperBear, said the death was a shock.

“I’d seen him on Saturday, he seemed just fine, and I told him I’d see him on Monday,” Wade said. “My assistant and I are still in shock because he seemed perfectly healthy.”

JPD Lt. David Campbell said police investigators found no signs of foul play at the scene, and Lakey’s remains were sent to Anchorage for an autopsy, which found “no trauma that would cause death.”

Police are awaiting the results of a toxicology test to determine if the death is related to drugs or alcohol. A toxicology report is expected in six to eight weeks.
