JEDC burglarized, computer stolen

The Juneau Police Department is asking for the public’s help involving a burglary earlier this week.

According to JPD, someone broke into the Juneau Economic Development Council building on Willoughby Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Monday. A Lenovo laptop computer valued at $500 was the only item reported stolen, said police, which spotlighted the burglary as their Crime of the Week.

“It appeared someone stood on plastic containers and entered through a window at the back of the building,” the release states. “Items from the office had been stacked near the window that was used to enter and exit.”

Police believe the burglar may have been scared off by an employee who showed up to work early, and snow tracks showed the suspect went from the window to a vehicle parked behind the building.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact JPD at 586-0600 or the Juneau Crime Line at juneaucrimeline.com. Tipsters are guaranteed anonymity and may be eligible for a cash reward.
