Tlingit & Haida, Sealaska and Sealaska Heritage Institute have joined together to host a medical fundraiser and appreciation dinner later this month for Sen. Albert Kookesh (Ka’sháan), who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Door prizes, a catered dinner, 50/50 raffle and a dance performance will all take place at the fundraiser, which runs 5-8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall downtown.

Donations are still needed. Native foods, art, jewelry, gift certificates and desserts are appreciated and can be dropped off at several locations: Tlingit and Haida (9097 Glacier Highway), Sealaska (1 Sealaska Plaza) and Sealaska Heritage Institute (105 S. Seward Street).

For more information, contact Carley Jackson (463-7379), Sally Kasnick (723-5447) or Carmaleeda Estrada (586-9280).

Correction: An earlier version of this article didn’t include the date of the fundraiser. The event is Aug. 25. The Empire regrets this error.
