Seasonal events guide for the end of November

Skating and feasting and shopping, oh my!

From themed nights on the ice to weekend-long shopping bonanzas, there’s no shortage of seasonal events through the end of the week. Here’s a roundup of what’s happening around town Nov. 26 – Nov. 30, and how to join in.

Treadwell Arena’s Skate Nights

Treadwell Ice Arena, 105 Savikko Rd, Douglas

Wednesday: 8:00 to 9:15 p.m: Turkey Bowling: visit the rink for a Free Skate and knock down some bowling pins. The twist? You’ll be using a frozen turkey as your ball! Win a turkey by hitting the most pins and enjoy a holiday skate.

Friday: 7 to 8:15 p.m: Santa Skate: skate with Santa and his elves!

Events include both admission and skate rentals free of charge — just be aware that rental skates are limited and first come, first served.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Eagle River United Methodist Camp

Thursday: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm at Eagle River United Methodist Camp, 27500 Glacier Highway, about Mile 28, just before Eagle Beach State Park

Bring a dish to share if you can. There will be plenty of delicious food! Enjoy a roaring fire, play games with friends, go for a walk at the camp or a walk to the beach, maybe even see whales! The lodge will be open by 10 a.m. and we’ll start serving Thanksgiving Dinner about 1:30 p.m. The camp is located at 27500 Glacier Highway, about Mile 28, just before Eagle Beach State Park.

Salvation Army Thanksgiving Dinner

Thursday: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Juneau Yacht Club, 1301 Harbor Way, Juneau

A free shuttle will run between the Yacht Club and the Salvation Army, which is located at 439 Willoughby Avenue

Resurrection Lutheran Church Thanksgiving Dinner

Thursday: 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 740 W 10th St, Juneau

Dinner will be served in the church’s community cafeteria and dining room, provided by RCL Food Services staff and volunteers.

Juneau Public Market

Centennial Hall and the Juneau Arts and Culture Center

Friday: 12:00 – 7:00 pm

Saturday & Sunday: 10 am – 5 pm

The Juneau Public Market is the largest event by attendance in Southeast Alaska. Over 175 vendors — many from across the region and others across the country — will offer arts, crafts and other products.

$10 at the door, cash only, gets you a 3-day ticket for admission to Centennial Hall. The JACC is free to enter.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Handel’s “Messiah”

Members of Taku Winds, community chorus and soloists (Kayla Dapcevich, Aria Moore, Jacob Miller and David Monroe) bring you Part One and Hallelujah Chorus of Handel’s “Messiah”. What a wonderful way to start the Christmas season. This is our gift to Juneau, so please join us.
