Argument between neighbors leads to Friday stabbing at Cedar Park

A man was stabbed multiple times at Cedar Park housing complex on Douglas Island Friday night. Police say it happened after an altercation with a neighbor escalated to violence.

The man’s wounds do not appear to be life-threatening, the Juneau Police Department wrote in a prepared statement.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon, JPD Deputy Sergeant Lee Phelps told the Empire. JPD has a suspect and is investigating the incident before making any arrests.

“Some of the details I think are still a little hazy, so we’re trying to flush that out before we make an arrest,” Phelps said. “But there’s no suspect at large or anything like that.”

The victim, identified as a 37-year-old man, was awake and responsive when JPD arrived. He was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital by ambulance.

A 911 call was placed to JPD at 8:38 p.m. by a witness to the stabbing.

The victim got into an argument with his neighbor’s girlfriend, police believe. The neighbor’s boyfriend and the victim then confronted each other and the victim was stabbed multiple times in the back, abdomen, arms and head.

A gun was recovered by police at the neighbor’s home, and officers believe it may have been involved in the incident.
