Opinion: Mike Dunleavy for governor

In 1994 my wife and I made a decision to seek a path to U.S. citizenship through a unique opportunity with the U.S. Department of Labor. We were a part of a cohort of Philippine residents who were offered this chance of a lifetime to bring our skills and training to the United States.

Our neighbor at the time had a family connection in Juneau and often spoke of the opportunities that Alaska offered.

From the time we arrived, we became very active in the civic life of the community. We worked with local Assembly members and state legislators on many initiatives to improve the quality of life for all residents.

Over the past several years, I have met many of our state’s leaders. One of these leaders of whom I am particularly impressed is now running for governor.

On several occasions, I have discussed issues of importance with Senator . We have discussed his support of Alaska’s capital city, improving transportation access to the public safety. He is a man of integrity. I am confident that his work will focus on getting our great state back on a path of prosperity.

Like me, Alaska represents to Dunleavy a place of unique opportunity. When he was a young man, the Alaskan economy thrived and was the envy of the world.

We have an opportunity now to elect a governor committed to the economic principles that will bring prosperity back to Alaska — a place where those who seek the ideals of freedom and hard work will again have the chance to succeed. I ask that you join me in voting for Dunleavy for governor.
