Regional airline offering daily flights connecting Juneau, Ketchikan, Petersburg

Demand for day trips led to decision, owner says

Island Air Express, an airline company based in Southeast Alaska, is now offering year-round nonstop service between Juneau, Ketchikan and Petersburg, it announced Friday.

This service allows Petersburg residents to do a day trip to Juneau without having to stay overnight when coming to the capital city. It also allows visitors from Ketchikan and Klawock to take day trips to Petersburg. Island Air Express owner Scott Van Valin said this move was brought about by popular demand.

“Since the service began, our customers asked for an evening return flight from Juneau to allow single-day trips, whether it be for medical appointments, shopping, work or just visiting friends,” Van Valin said in a release. “We’re now happy to be able to provide a morning flight from Petersburg to Juneau with an evening return.”

The new flight to Juneau departs Petersburg at 8 a.m., and the return flight departs Juneau at 5 p.m. The new flight from Ketchikan to Petersburg leaves at 7 a.m., and the return flight departs Petersburg at 6:15 p.m. Fares start at $199 per person and can be purchased at www.islandairx.com or by calling 888-387-8989.

Island Air Express was founded as Scott Air, LLC in 1998, and currently provides more than 20 daily flights in Southeast using Cessna Grand Caravan 208Bs and PC-12s.
