Video: No daytime shelter, no lunch
Published 8:45 am Friday, August 16, 2019
This marked the first week that the Glory Hall — Juneau’s downtown emergency shelter and soup kitchen — was unable to open during the day and to serve lunch, due to Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s state budget cuts.
The shelter is normally open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, but patrons this week were forced to find other places to be.
Oatmeal and coffee were available to clients before leaving the shelter to ease the transition, but no lunch was available.
We talked to Glory Hall patrons out on the streets throughout the week, and interviewed and photographed them about how they are dealing with the change. Here’s what they said (Video above). Read more here: Homeless shelter day room closes for week.
