• The Floyd Dryden Middle School eighth grade orchestra, under the direction of Missouri Smyth, recently returned from the World Strides Music Festival in California with a silver medal in the junior high class category of the National Music Standards.

The orchestra performed a program of classical and contemporary pieces at the Rose Theater in Garden Grove, closing with their favorite “Dragon Hunter” by Richard Meyer.

This trip would not have been possible without the generous volunteer service and financial support of family, friends, businesses and the Juneau community. We are so very grateful for your support for it is experiences such as these that teach life’s lessons, build self-esteem, strengthen friendships, encourage excellence and establish a lifelong love of music.

• Juneau-based Shattuck & Grummett Insurance has been named one of Anchorage-based Umialik’s Insurance Company’s Circle of Excellence Agencies for 2019.

The Umialik Circle of Excellence recognition is announced annually to spotlight an elite group of partners who have excelled based on performance and growth over the past six years (2013-2018). An agency must also demonstrate that they meet high standards of professional excellence and integrity in order to be considered for this recognition.

Shattuck & Grummett’s place among this list is a testament to the overall quality of the agency’s insurance professionals and their commitment to meeting the needs of their insurance clients.
