The fifth annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot took over the Airport Dike Trail on Thursday morning, helping raise important funds for two high school athletics programs.
Approximately 370 participants walked or ran in 1-mile and 5-kilometer races, according to event organizer Tyra Smith-MacKinnon. Race proceeds went toward the Juneau-Douglas High School hockey and Thunder Mountain High School cross country teams, who helped with race set-up.
“It’s a pretty fun community event,” Smith-MacKinnon said. “You see a lot of people who you can tell haven’t seen each other in many years.”
The Nugget Alaskan Outfitter and Foggy Mountain Shop donated prizes for the races. Official results were not kept.
