Thunder Mountain’s Tupou takes Bill Weiss wrestling title

Thunder Mountain junior Carl Tupou took home the lone Juneau belt at the Bill Weiss Invitational Tournament this weekend at Ketchikan, decisioning Wrangell’s Caleb Groshong 5-2 for the 220-pound title.

Devin Mason and Louie Rubenstein both took home runner-up medals, while Connor Norman took home a consolation bracket win for 3rd place and Curt Fisher finished 5th in the 120-pound class. The combined team took home sixth with 91.5 points in team scoring. Ketchikan took first overall with 197.5 points followed closely by Bethel with 197.0. Glennallen High School rounded out the top three teams with 145.0 points. Fifteen teams made the tournament.

The combined Juneau wrestling team has three meets left before the Region V tournament at Sitka Dec. 9-10.
