On Oct. 28, 1986, the Coast Guard Commandant confirmed that he had requested information on how to improve the support. Since then, the group had been looking for different ways to reorganize the group in response to the feedback they received during the last report. According to records discovered by the Juneau Empire, however, the possible reorganization plans could have meant the relocation of Juneau Coast Guard personnel.
In Alaska’s race for governor, Joe Vogler of the Alaska Independence party ran for the third time against well-known Steve Cowper and Arliss Sturgulewski. Vogler, who had acknowledged that his chances of winning were slim, was born in Kansas and worked as a logger before coming to Fairbanks to become a real estate developer.
Meanwhile, at the city level, the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly requested more information on its proposed sales tax issue voted on during the municipal election in early October. The Assembly also planned to discuss whether the city needed to adopt a lobbyist for the upcoming legislative session during the next meeting.
