TMHS standout makes it to NWACC title game

Former Thunder Mountain High School standout Matt Seymour helped lead the Whatcom Community College Orcas of Bellingham, Washington, to the NWACC championship game this weekend against Spokane Community College.

Following an 18-point performance Saturday night in a win against defending champion Clark Community College in which he was named player of the game, Seymour followed up with nine points on Sunday in the championship game. Spokane won the contest, 91-84.

Seymour logged 22 minutes of action in the final game despite being in foul trouble, and connected on 2-of-8 deep shots and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. He also grabbed two rebounds, logged one steal and added three assists while committing no turnovers.

Whatcom defeated Clark on Saturday, 74-58, in a solid defensive performance that limited the Penguins to 29 percent shooting from the field.

In that game, Seymour made 6-of-12 field goals, including 4-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc, and added four rebounds while committing no turnovers in 35 minutes of action.

Seymout is a 2014 graduate of Thunder Mountain High School, where he was named the team’s MVP and best defender, and he became the first Falcons player in school history to reach 1,000 points (1,158). He led the Falcons to the state tournament his senior year, eventually losing to West Valley, 62-59, in the game to decide fourth place.
