NEW YORK — Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes scored in the first period, and the New York Rangers beat the St. Louis Blues 6-3 on Thursday night for their seventh straight victory.
J.T. Miller, Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi also scored for New York, which improved to 12-2-2.
Dmitrij Jaskin, Vladimir Tarasenko and Troy Brouwer scored for St. Louis, which had won three in a row. The Blues fell to 11-4-1.
New York and St. Louis entered ranked first and third, respectively, in the NHL in goals against per game. But the first of their two meetings this season was a wild affair.
By the first intermission, the Rangers led 3-1 and the Blues had made a goaltending change.
DEVILS 3, BLACKHAWKS 2
CHICAGO — Sergey Kalinin scored a power-play goal with 2:27 left and New Jersey beat Chicago for its second victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions in a week.
With Patrick Kane off for high sticking, Corey Crawford stopped Kyle Palmieri’s shot from the left circle. But Kalinin was alone at the edge of the crease and slipped the rebound in the net.
Adam Henrique and Palmieri scored in the second to put New Jersey ahead, Cory Schneider made 27 saves and the Devils rebounded from a 2-0 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday night. New Jersey has won three of four — including a 4-2 win over Chicago last Friday night — and is 9-3-0 after starting 0-3-1.
Chicago rookie Artemi Panarin scored from a sharp angle with 6:41 left in the third. Kane assisted on that one and scored a 5-on-3 goal in the first to extend his point streak to 11 games.
COYOTES 4, OILERS 1
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Max Domi had a goal and an assist, Mike Smith stopped 27 shots and Arizona raced past Edmonton after a slow start.
Edmonton played the night before, but had the early jump on Arizona, scoring in the opening 3 minutes.
The Coyotes didn’t stop once they got rolling and extended their point streak against the Oilers to 19 straight games (16-0-3), including six consecutive victories.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson got Arizona’s offense started with a goal in the first period and Shane Doan scored in the second. Stefan Elliott scored his first goal since joining the Coyotes and Domi put it away with his eighth of the season in the third.
Smith was sharp following a strong performance against Los Angeles on Tuesday night, overcoming Tanner Hall’s early goal with some spectacular saves.
CAPITALS 5, FLYERS 2
PHILADELPHIA — Jason Chimera had two goals and an assist to lead Washington to a victory over slumping Philadelphia.
Washington’s Alex Ovechkin remained one goal shy of becoming the top Russian-born goal scorer in NHL history.
Ovechkin, tied with Sergei Fedorov at 483 career goals, appeared to take the lead when his slap shot beat Steve Mason with 38 seconds left in the second period. However, the goal was disallowed after an officials’ review determined that Justin Williams was offside on the play.
T.J. Oshie, Nicklas Backstrom and Williams all scored for Washington, which won its third in four games while avoiding losing consecutive games for the first time this season.
Scott Laughton and Claude Giroux had goals for Philadelphia, which has lost four straight games at home and eight of its last nine overall.
MAPLE LEAFS 2, PREDATORS 1, SO
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Peter Holland scored the only goal in a five-round shootout to give Toronto a victory over Nashville.
Tyler Bozak scored in the third period for the Maple Leafs, and James Reimer turned aside all five Nashville attempts in the tiebreaker after making 21 saves in regulation and overtime.
Shea Weber had a power-play goal for the Predators.
Holland beat goalie Pekka Rinne with a wrist shot high to the blocker side. The shootout victory was Toronto’s first in four tries this season.
The Predators had won their first two shootouts.
LIGHTNING 3, FLAMES 1
TAMPA, Fla. — Steven Stamkos scored a go-ahead power-play goal in the third period, Ben Bishop stopped a personal five-game losing streak and Tampa Bay beat Calgary.
Brian Boyle and Tyler Johnson also scored for the Lightning, who have 15 goals over a 3-6-1 stretch. The defending Eastern Conference champions topped the NHL in goal scoring last season.
Calgary got a goal from Sam Bennett.
Stamkos put the Lightning up 2-1 from the low left circle off a pass from Alex Killorn with 7:09 to play.
Johnson extended the lead to 3-1 with 1:33 remaining.
Bishop, who made 30 saves, had given up just eight goals during his skid.
STARS 6, JETS 3
DALLAS — Jamie Benn scored the tiebreaking goal on a third-period power play and Dallas went on to beat Winnipeg.
Benn gathered in the rebound of Tyler Seguin’s one-timer from the left faceoff circle and tucked a wrist shot inside the right goal post past Ondrej Pavelec at 14:05.
Antoine Roussel and Vernon Fiddler added empty-net goals. Ales Hemsky had a goal and two assists. John Klingberg and Colton Sceviour had a goal and an assist, and Seguin and Johnny Oduya each had two assists for the stars.
Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves, including 32 of Winnipeg’s last 33 shots, for his fourth consecutive win. Pavelec had 28 saves.
Tyler Myers’ first goal this season had tied the game 3-3 at 9:17 of the third. Blake Wheeler and Jacob Trouba also scored for the Jets.
SABRES 3, PANTHERS 2
SUNRISE, Fla. — Cody Franson scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period, Sam Reinhart added a power-play goal early in the third and improving Buffalo held off Florida.
Brian Gionta also scored for the Sabres, and Rasmus Ristolainen had two assists. Linus Ullmark stopped 36 shots during his fifth start in six games.
Buffalo, last in the NHL the past two seasons, upped its record to 8-8-0 with its fifth victory in six games. Led by newcomer Ryan O’Reilly and rookie star Jack Eichel, the Sabres have won three straight road games for the first time since March 2012.
Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau scored for Florida, and Jaromir Jagr had an assist.
SENATORS 3, CANUCKS 2
OTTAWA, Ontario — Bobby Ryan and Chris Wideman had power-play goals, Erik Karlsson also scored and Ottawa beat Vancouver.
Andrew Hammond made 33 saves to help Ottawa snap a two-game losing streak and get its first regulation win on home ice this season.
Sven Baertschi and Alexander Edler scored and Ryan Miller made 22 saves for Vancouver. The Canucks were playing the fourth of a seven-game road trip.
The Senators had one of their better third periods of late and were able to hold off the Canucks in front of a sellout crowd of 19,229.
Wideman’s goal put Ottawa ahead 3-1 with 1:55 left in the third period. The cushion proved necessary after Edler scored with 23.9 seconds left.
AVALANCHE 3, BRUINS 2
BOSTON — Matt Duchene broke a tie in the third period with his sixth goal in five games and Colorado beat Boston.
Reto Berra made 25 saves, and Colorado won back-to-back road games for the first time this season after beating Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
Zdeno Chara and Ryan Spooner scored in the first to give Boston a 2-0 lead, but Carl Soderberg and Francois Beauchemin scored to tie it 2-2 later in the period.
The Bruins broke a club record by losing to Colorado at home for the eighth straight time. Boston had previously gone winless at home seven times against both Montreal and Detroit.
WILD 3, HURRICANES 2, OT
RALEIGH, N.C. — Jason Zucker scored his second goal of the game with 1:10 left in overtime, giving Minnesota the win over Carolina.
Minnesota had to kill off an overtime power play to set up the winner.
It was Minnesota’s first win in three overtime games this season and the Hurricanes first loss in four extra periods. It was the third straight win for the Wild.
Thomas Vanek scored the other Minnesota goal.
Andrej Nestrasil scored his first goal of the season for Carolina and Justin Faulk had the other.
Minnesota’s Devan Dubnyk stopped 37 shots, while Carolina’s Cam Ward saved 18.
