Gastineau Channel Little League’s Flying Squirrel Pirates won the Junior Division championship on Saturday night at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Field.

Similar to the Pirates’ win on Friday, the game was close for long stretches, and it took clutch hitting late to seal a 14-3 victory over the Red Sox.

With the game tied at one, Gaby Soto’s double in the fourth inning provided the spark the Pirates desperately needed. Soto’s shot put his team up 3-1 and led to more run-scoring hits by Josh Carte and Kai Schmidt.

The Pirates doubled their lead in the fifth and final inning when Carte, Soto, Chris Harris, Nate Burkhart, Preston Williams, Mason Ackman and Rae Razor all scored.

Caden Mesdag, Garrett Bryant and Finn Kesey scored the only runs for the Red Sox.

Carte struck out six and allowed just four hits over 4 2/3 innings. Bryant allowed four hits and seven runs and struck out seven.
