Juneau United falls to Wasilla

Juneau United fell to Wasilla High School 15-0 on Saturday, dropping to 0-5 on the season, marking the second time in three weeks Juneau has been shutout.

The Wasilla defense, which allowed an average of 30 points coming into Saturday’s game, seemed to have Juneau figured out. The Warriors forced a fumble on Juneau’s first drive and stayed in front of senior wide receiver Hansel Hinckle, who was held to one reception for 24 yards. Sophomore Cooper Kriegmont totaled 46 yards on 11 carries and freshman Gaby Soto added 26 yards on five carries for Juneau.

Wasilla took the lead midway through the second quarter on a 10-yard run from senior Jordan Quenga. Junior Tristan Wake made good on the two-point with his only reception of the game.

Quenga, who rushed for over 200 yards, found the end zone a second time with just under four minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Juneau returns to town for its third home game of the season on Friday at 7 p.m. against Chugiak. The Mustangs dropped to 1-5 after a 73-13 drubbing on Friday against Bartlett. A 17-14 win over Wasilla the weekend before is their only win.

The Juneau junior varsity played before the varsity and defeated Wasilla 40-26.
