To some, summer begins with bonfires on the beach or fishing out on the water. For those heading to Treadwell Arena this Friday, summer begins with roller skates and Donna Summer.
Treadwell Arena is hosting a “Disco Roller Skating” event Friday night to get its summer schedule rolling. The free event runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m., but skates are not provided. The rink — located on Douglas Island next to Sandy Beach — opened up this week for the summer after being closed for maintenance since mid-April. It is available for rentals from now until July 14. Friday’s retro skating party serves as the beginning of the season.
Brand-new gift shop Love & Matter is sponsoring the event. Love & Matter, founded in Petersburg in 2013, is a shop that seeks out local and organically made products, including clothing, art, books and more. The shop is located at 228 Seward Street downtown.
