In regards to the article about the JAHC removing DEI language from their site: I understand that there are, as said in the article, “other words” that they will use to articulate the same beliefs and commitment to the meaning of DEI, but this is about more than that. This is about giving in, retreating in the face of an authoritarian regime. This is one more line of defense of democracy failing and falling.
The JAHC has used Indigenous and marginalized artists for years to shore up support, gain funds, and garner audiences. Now to erase wording out of fear is wrong. They may not be turning their back on these principles, but they sure are compromising them and presenting a negative message to the community. They are being chumps at a time we need heroes.
