Thunder Mountain claims early lead, wins again over JDHS

Thunder Mountain High School junior Nina Fenumiai hit a two-run home run and the Falcons defeated Juneau-Douglas High School 9-1 on Saturday afternoon at Dimond Park.

JDHS committed costly errors in the bottom of the first inning when TMHS piled on five runs.

The game remained a 5-1 affair for the next four innings as senior Leah Spargo pitched well in relief, allowing just five hits.

However, the Crimson Bears couldn’t generate enough hits of their own to get back into the game.

Asianna Mazon led JDHS with two hits while Amanda VanSlyke, Skyler Hickok, Abby Meiners, Sophia Schauwecker and Spargo each contributed one hit.

Nina and Tasi Fenumiai accounted for four and the eight hits by the Falcons.

Kyra Jenkins Hayes pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits while striking out six.

The Falcons improve to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the Southeast Conference. The Crimson Bears drop to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
