Softball: JDHS wins second against Ketchikan

In their second conference game this week, the Juneau-Douglas High School softball team beat Ketchikan High School 9-2.

JDHS sophomore Morgan Balovich led her team from the plate with two home runs off three at bats for four RBIs. Balovich’s two-homer effort comes a day after senior Quincy Bates hit her own two-homer game.

JDHS held Kayhi scoreless for the first three innings, opening scoring in the first inning when junior Sami Good scored after tagging up on a line drive from senior Amanda Bicknell. Balovich’s first homer put JDHS up 2-0 in the second.

Junior Maddie Johnson added two more runs for the Crimson Bears in the third with a two-RBI line drive double to right field. Bicknell and sophomore Abby Meiners scored on the play.

After a walk added one more run in the third, Ketchikan scored two in the fourth off a hard ground ball single.

Balovich’s second homer added three runs for JDHS in the fifth, batting Bates and Johnson home. Sophomore Leah Spargo scored on an error by Kayhi’s pitcher in the fifth for the final 9-2 score.

With Thursday-night victories over Ketchikan, 4-1, and Homer, 17-5, JDHS’ 9-2 win makes three on the weekend.
