Canceled takeoffs mean delayed tipoff for Capital City Classic

Games will be played Wednesday through Friday.

A series of canceled flights led to changes to the schedule for this year’s Princess Cruises Capital City Classic tournament, according to Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé activities director Chad Bentz.

There will not be any games held on Tuesday night, and instead teams will be playing Wednesday through Friday, no longer reserving Thursday as a buffer. All other times and schedules are in place and all games and contests will still take place in the JDHS gymnasium. The only other major change is that Soldotna High School boys team will no longer be attending and South Anchorage High School will be taking their place.

“We were extremely fortunate to pick South up, which is great,” said Bentz. “A tournament was canceled for them, so they were bummed and they were looking to play. They called me about two hours before I found out about Soldotna and I said we were full, but then when I heard about Soldotna I immediately thought about South, it was a blessing in disguise. So, we’re up and running and it’s going to be a great tournament.”
