Death Notice: Robert James Bennett

Robert James Bennett, (T’eilweidi) died Nov. 30, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 75.

Bennett was born to Alice and Joseph Bennett Sr. in Juneau on June 13, 1943. Bennett was known as “Bobby,” “Shaggy,” “Bugsy” and “Scruffy.”

He was born and raised in Juneau and Angoon and he attended Juneau Douglas High School. He married Wilma Stoddard on Sept. 4, 1981. He belonged to Sealaska, Goldbelt and Kootznahoo Corporations and Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Bennett; parents Alice and Joseph Bennett Sr.; brother Joseph Bennett Jr.; nephew Paul Bennett. He is survived by his siblings Arlene (Walt) Adams, Gerald (Arlene) Bennett Sr., Bert Bennett Sr., Walter (Verla) Bennett Sr., Josephine Rhyner, and Bill Stoddard. He had numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at Glacier Valley Church of God. Burial will be announced at a later date.
