Writers Weir: ‘My Daddy Went to War Today’

A poem about a World War II veteran.

The car took him away.

But, Buster and me had to stay.

Will he be back for supper?

Supper? No, not for supper.

Will Daddy be back for my birthday?

Your birthday? Who’s to say!

Bye, Daddy, bye, bye.

I’m trying hard not to cry.
